Parents of Premature Babies (Preemie-L)
Mission Statement
The core purpose of Preemie-L is:
- to support families of premature babies while the babies are in hospital and as they grow up
We aim to do this by:
- providing the Preemie-L mailing list and Discussion Forum
- producing a print on demand newsletter with highlights of discussions from the group, so that those without internet access can see that there are others with similar concerns,
- publishing online information and support resources for families of premature babies and the professionals who work with them.
- supporting the provision of access to Preemie-L in hospitals with NICUs,
- encouraging developmentally supportive family-centered care in newborn intensive and special care nurseries,
- encouraging hospitals to compile and make available outcome information so that parents can make informed decisions about the care and treatment of their premature babies,
- providing a window into the workings of NICUs through the contribution of medical personnel,
- encouraging research into the causes and consequences of prematurity,
- providing a forum for the discussion of medical and ethical issues relating to the comfort and compassionate care of preterm infants.
